At the UN World Environment Day 2005 in San Francisco, the Youth Green Reach Program was established to parallel the program of 100 Mayors from around the world, producing a set of Accords or commitments about the environment called, A Promise of Actions for Greener Cities. Any youth can join the pledge. Start by reviewing the pledge document and email us your ideas for implementing an accord in your school, community, or place of worship. Reports will be made quarterly to the United Nations Environment Programme about your progress. Contact us by email here. The Youth Green Reach Pledge focuses on urban environmental issues such as recycling, renewable energy, conservation, environmental justice and health. The youth representatives participate in workshops and discussions about ways youth can improve the conditions of the environment in their own lives and in the communities where they live. In February 2003, the Governing Council of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) adopted a long-term strategy for engaging young people in environmental activities and in the work of UNEP.
